Klibühni Chur: Intimate Theater in Chur's Old Town

Klibühni Chur, whose name translates from the local dialect to “small stage,” is the second playhouse in Chur, after the Stadttheater. Located on Kirchgasse 14 in the Old Town, next to the Antistitium, the Klibühni has been a fixture of Chur's cultural scene since its founding in 1974. The Klibühni emerged from the cultural movements of the early 1970s, aiming to provide a platform for young artists and promote Kleinkunst. Over the years, it has evolved into a respected venue known for its diverse program of theater, concerts, readings, and children's theater. The Klibühni hosts approximately 120 performances each year, including both guest performances and its own productions. Many of its in-house productions have garnered attention beyond the local region. In its early days, performances were held only in the summer in the courtyard of the Zunfthaus (guild house) on Kirchgasse. In 1982, the Klibühni passed on the Churer Fest, which it had initiated in 1975 to finance the theater, to other Chur associations. In its place, the Klibühni started the Höflibeiz, a culinary and cultural event held each summer in the Zunfthaus. Today, the Klibühni is supported by an association and receives subsidies from the city of Chur's cultural fund. It continues to be a vital part of Chur's cultural landscape, offering a diverse and engaging program for audiences of all ages.
