Discover more about Theater Chur

Theater Chur, formerly known as Stadttheater Chur, stands as the premier performing arts venue in the Canton of Graubünden. Established in 1876, the theater has a rich history of continuous seasonal operation, with guest performances in Davos, Glarus, Rheinfelden and Aarau. The theater's architecture is also noteworthy. The building, initially an armory designed by Johannes Ludwig in the mid-19th century, was transformed in 1959 by architect Martin Risch to accommodate both the theater and the Cantonal Parliament. This unique combination of political and artistic spaces under one roof makes it a distinctive landmark in Chur. Today, Theater Chur is known for its diverse program, which runs from September to June. It showcases a mix of international productions by established directors and choreographers, as well as national and regional co-productions featuring actors, musicians, and more. The theater also fosters new and experimental cultural dialogues, enriching Chur's cultural life. In addition to theatrical performances, Theater Chur hosts concert series and local amateur dramatics. The theater also has a Café Bar that is open one hour before, during, and at least one hour after performances.
