Getting There

• Car

  If you're driving to C&O Canal Lock 19, start by entering the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal National Historical Park. From the main entrance, follow the signs towards the C&O Canal Towpath. Use your GPS to navigate to the address: Chesapeake and Ohio Canal Towpath, Potomac, MD 20854. Once you arrive, parking is available at various points along the towpath. Look for designated parking areas near the Lock 19 access point.

• Public Transportation

  To reach C&O Canal Lock 19 using public transportation, take the Metro to the Grosvenor-Strathmore station on the Red Line. From there, you can catch the Ride On bus #46 towards Potomac. Get off at the 'Potomac Village' stop. From the bus stop, walk approximately 0.5 miles towards the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal Towpath. Follow the pedestrian paths leading to the towpath, and continue until you reach Lock 19. Be sure to check bus schedules for any cost and exact times.

• Biking or Walking

  If you're already within the C&O Canal National Historical Park, you can bike or walk along the towpath to reach Lock 19. The towpath is well-maintained and provides scenic views of the canal and surrounding nature. Depending on your starting point within the park, Lock 19 is accessible via the towpath. Look for signs directing you to Lock 19, which is located approximately 2 miles from the Great Falls area of the park.
