If you are driving, start by heading to the town of Empire, MI. From Traverse City, take M-72 W to US-31 S, then follow the signs to Empire. Once in Empire, drive to the Empire Beach parking area, which is located at the end of S. Lacrosse St. Park your car here as this is where you will catch the ferry.

Ferry
Once parked, you will need to take the South Manitou Island Ferry, operated by the Manitou Island Transit. Tickets can be purchased at the ferry dock. Check the schedule ahead of time as ferry services vary by season. As of the latest information, the round-trip fare for adults is around $30. The ferry ride typically takes about 30 minutes, and offers beautiful views of the lake and the islands.

After arriving at South Manitou Island, you will disembark at the ferry landing. From there, follow the marked trails towards the South Manitou Island Lighthouse. It is approximately a 1.5-mile hike from the landing to the lighthouse. The trails are well-maintained, but be sure to wear comfortable footwear and bring water.
