Public Bus
Start at the Christchurch Central Bus Station. Take the number 28 bus towards Sumner. Once on the bus, enjoy the scenic ride which takes about 30 minutes. Disembark at the Sumner Beach stop. From there, head to the beach and continue along the promenade until you reach the intersection with Esplanade. Turn left onto Esplanade and follow the road until you reach the Godley Head car park area, which is approximately a 30-minute walk from Sumner Beach.

Walking
If you're in the central area of Christchurch, start at Cathedral Square. Head towards Cambridge Terrace and follow it south until you reach the Avon River. Walk along the river until you reach the intersection with Fitzgerald Avenue. Cross the river and continue straight on Fitzgerald Avenue until you reach the bus stop at 'Fitzgerald Ave near Tennyson St'. From there, take the number 28 bus towards Sumner. Get off at the Sumner Beach stop, then walk along the promenade and Esplanade to Godley Head.

Rent a bike from one of the many bike rental shops in Christchurch city center. Head south on Manchester Street, which will take you to the Heathcote River. Follow the river path towards Ferrymead and continue on the cycleway towards Sumner. Once you reach Sumner, follow the road along the beach to the intersection with Esplanade. Godley Head is a short ride from there, and you can park your bike at the designated bike racks near the car park.
