From the Christchurch Central Bus Exchange, take the number 3 bus towards Sumner. The bus will take you through the city and along the scenic route towards the coast. Stay on the bus until you reach the Sumner Village stop, which should take approximately 30-40 minutes. From the bus stop, walk down the main street, Sumner Road, until you reach the beach area.

Cycle
If you prefer to cycle, you can rent a bike from one of the many bike rental shops in central Christchurch. Head towards the Avon River and follow the riverside path until you reach the intersection with Linwood Avenue. Turn left onto Linwood Avenue and follow it until you reach the intersection with Ferry Road. Follow Ferry Road until you see the signs for Sumner. The ride will take approximately 40-50 minutes. Upon entering Sumner, follow the road down to the beach.

For those who enjoy walking, you can start from the Christchurch Botanic Gardens. Head south down Rolleston Avenue towards Cambridge Terrace, and cross the bridge over the Avon River. Continue straight until you reach the intersection with Moorhouse Avenue. Turn left and follow Moorhouse Avenue until it becomes Ferry Road. Continue on Ferry Road, and follow the signs directing you to Sumner. This walk will take around 1.5 to 2 hours, so be prepared for a leisurely stroll.
