Getting There

    From Fox Glacier, start your journey by heading north on State Highway 6 (SH6). Continue on SH6 for approximately 22 kilometers until you reach the turnoff to Ōkārito Road, which will be on your left. Follow Ōkārito Road for about 12 kilometers until you reach the small township of Ōkārito. The lagoon is located just beyond the township, and you can find parking available near the lagoon access area.

  • Public Transportation

    To reach Ōkārito Lagoon via public transport, you will first need to take a bus from Fox Glacier to Franz Josef Glacier. Buses operate several times a day, and the fare is approximately NZD 30 per person. Upon arriving in Franz Josef, transfer to a bus service that heads to Ōkārito. Ensure to check the bus schedule in advance, as services may be limited. Once you arrive in Ōkārito, the lagoon is a short walk from the bus stop, following the signs to the lagoon area.
