Getting There

Walking
If you are starting from the Kaikoura town center, head towards the coast along West End. Continue straight until you reach the Esplanade. Follow the Esplanade along the coastline until you arrive at the Kaikoura Peninsula Walkway entrance. From there, follow the walkway signs leading to the Kaikoura Seal Colony. The walk will take approximately 30 minutes and offers scenic views of the coastline.

Public Transport (Shuttle Bus)
Catch a local shuttle bus from any major accommodation in Kaikoura. Most shuttles will have routes that pass near the Kaikoura Peninsula Walkway. Ask the driver to drop you off at the entrance to the walkway. From there, it’s a short stroll to the seal colony, approximately 10 minutes along the path.

Biking
If you prefer to bike, you can rent a bicycle from one of the local shops in Kaikoura. Head towards the coast via West End and follow the bike-friendly paths along the Esplanade. Continue until you reach the Kaikoura Peninsula Walkway. The seal colony is accessible via the walkway, and biking will take about 20 minutes from the town center.
