Getting There

Walking
If you are starting from the Kaikoura Visitor Centre, head southwest on West End towards Beach Road. Continue straight onto the Esplanade, where you will enjoy views of the coastline. Walk along the Esplanade for about 1.5 kilometers until you reach the intersection with State Highway 1. Turn right onto State Highway 1, and you will see The Rod Father on your left after approximately 200 meters. The location is just before the entrance to the Kaikoura Peninsula.

From the Kaikoura Visitor Centre, you can catch a bus that runs along State Highway 1. Check the local bus schedule for the next available service. Board the bus heading towards the south and disembark at the stop closest to the entrance of The Rod Father, which should take about 5-10 minutes. Once you get off, it’s a short walk back to The Rod Father, which will be on your left.
