Walking
Start your journey from the center of Kaikoura at the Kaikoura Information Centre located at 96 West End. Head east on West End towards the coast, and then take a left onto the Esplanade, following the coastline. Continue walking along the Esplanade until you reach the start of the Kaikōura Peninsula Walkway. Look for the sign that indicates the entrance to the walkway. Once on the walkway, follow the signs toward Whalers Bay Lookout. The path will lead you through beautiful coastal scenery, and it’s approximately a 30-40 minute walk to the lookout.

Bicycle
If you prefer cycling, you can rent a bike from one of the local rental shops in Kaikoura. Begin your ride from the town center and head towards the Esplanade. Follow the same route as described for walking, cycling along the Esplanade until you reach the entrance to the Kaikōura Peninsula Walkway. Lock your bike at the designated area and then continue walking along the path to Whalers Bay Lookout. This route will take around 15-20 minutes by bike, plus the walking time to the lookout.
