Car
From Mount Cook National Park, head south on State Highway 80 towards Twizel. After approximately 40 kilometers, you will reach the junction with State Highway 8. Turn left onto State Highway 8, heading east. Continue for about 30 kilometers until you reach Lake Tekapo / Takapō Reserve. The scenic drive will take around 1 hour and offers stunning views of the surrounding mountains and landscapes. There are no tolls on this route.

Public Transportation
To reach Lake Tekapo / Takapō Reserve using public transportation, you will first need to take a bus from Mount Cook Village to Twizel. Companies like InterCity or NZ Buses operate this route. The journey takes approximately 30 minutes. Once in Twizel, transfer to a bus heading to Lake Tekapo. This leg of the trip takes around 40 minutes. Be sure to check the bus schedules ahead of time, as they may not run frequently. A one-way ticket for the entire journey may cost between NZD 30 to NZD 50, depending on the service.

If you prefer a more direct route, consider taking a taxi or using a rideshare service like Uber from Mount Cook National Park to Lake Tekapo / Takapō Reserve.
