Getting There

Car
If you are traveling by car within Mount Cook National Park, start from the Aoraki/Mount Cook Village. Head south on the Hooker Valley Road for approximately 7 kilometers (about 10 minutes). This road will take you to the Hooker Valley car park. From the car park, you will see signs for the Hooker Valley Track. Park your vehicle in the designated area, as parking is free. After parking, follow the signs to the Hooker Valley Track, which is well-marked and easy to navigate.

Walking
Once you have parked at the Hooker Valley car park, begin your hike on the Hooker Valley Track. The walk to the Alpine Memorial takes approximately 1 hour. The track is relatively flat and well-maintained, making it suitable for all fitness levels. You will enjoy stunning views of Mount Cook and the surrounding mountains along the way. After about 30 minutes of walking, you will reach the first swing bridge, which offers fantastic photo opportunities. Continue along the track until you see the signs indicating the Alpine Memorial. The memorial is located a short distance off the main track, so follow the signs to reach your destination.

Public Transportation
If you are using public transportation, check the schedule for the InterCity bus service that operates from Christchurch to Mount Cook Village. Upon arriving at Mount Cook Village, you can either walk to the Hooker Valley Track (approximately 5 kilometers, about 1 hour walk) or arrange a shuttle service from the village to the Hooker Valley car park, which usually costs around NZD 20-30. Once at the car park, follow the walking instructions provided above to reach the Alpine Memorial.
