From Rotorua City Centre, head to the Rotorua Bus Terminal located at 1180 Haupapa Street. Catch the 'Lake Tarawera' bus (check the current schedule for exact timings). Inform the driver that you would like to get off at the Buried Village stop. The journey takes approximately 25 minutes. Once you arrive, walk approximately 300 meters along Tarawera Road to reach the entrance of the Buried Village of Te Wairoa.

If you are feeling adventurous, you can walk to the Buried Village from Rotorua City Centre. Start at the Rotorua i-SITE Visitor Centre on Fenton Street. Head east on Fenton Street and turn left onto the Lake Road. Continue on Lake Road until you reach Tarawera Road. Turn right and follow Tarawera Road. The distance is about 13 kilometers, so prepare for a long walk. It will take approximately 2.5 to 3 hours depending on your pace.

Bicycle Rental
For a more active route, consider renting a bicycle from one of the local rental shops in Rotorua. Start from the Rotorua i-SITE Visitor Centre and follow the same route as for walking. Cycling to the Buried Village of Te Wairoa will be faster, taking about 40 to 50 minutes. Make sure to wear a helmet and follow local cycling rules. Lock your bike at the entrance when you arrive.
