Getting There

  • Car

    If you're driving from Greymouth, head south on State Highway 6 towards Hokitika. Continue on SH6 for approximately 33 km until you reach the town of Hokitika. From Hokitika, turn onto State Highway 73 and drive for about 35 km until you reach the junction with State Highway 6 again. Turn left onto SH6 and continue for another 18 km towards Westport. Once in Westport, turn onto Oparara Road, which is located just north of the town. Follow Oparara Road for approximately 12 km until you reach the Oparara Basin. Look for the signs directing you to the Oparara Arches car park.

  • Public Transportation

    Public transport options are limited in this remote area, but you can take a bus from Greymouth to Westport using the InterCity service. Once you arrive in Westport, you may need to arrange a taxi or shuttle service to reach Oparara Basin, as public transport does not go directly there. Be sure to contact local transport providers in advance to confirm availability and costs.
