Getting There

    If you're driving, start from Nelson, the nearest major city. Take State Highway 60 north toward Takaka. After approximately 60 kilometers, turn onto Takaka Hill Road and follow it for about 17 kilometers until you reach Takaka. In Takaka, turn onto Pupu Valley Road. Follow this road for about 10 kilometers until you reach the Pupu Hydro Walkway Trailhead, which will be on your right. There is no entry fee for the trailhead area.

  • Public Transportation

    From Nelson, take a bus service (like the Naked Bus or a local coach service) to Takaka. Once in Takaka, you will need to arrange for a taxi or rideshare service to reach the Pupu Hydro Walkway Trailhead, as public transport does not go directly to the trailhead. The distance from Takaka to the trailhead is about 10 kilometers, and taxi services should be arranged in advance. Expect to pay around NZD 30-40 for the taxi ride.
