Car
If you're starting from Bend, Oregon, take US-20 W for about 22 miles. Merge onto OR-126 W and continue for approximately 20 miles until you reach the junction with OR-242. Turn left onto OR-242, which will take you towards the McKenzie Pass. Drive for about 15 miles until you see the signs for the North Sister Trailhead. You can park in the designated area near the trailhead. Be sure to arrive early as parking can fill up quickly during peak season.
Public Transportation + Hiking
If you're using public transportation, take a Greyhound or Cascades East Transit bus to Bend, Oregon. From Bend, you will need to arrange for a taxi or a rideshare service (like Uber or Lyft) to take you to the OR-242 junction. Once at OR-242, follow the same route as described above for cars. Note that transportation services may have variable costs, so check current rates in advance. Once you arrive at the North Sister Trailhead, prepare for a hike; the trail is moderate to difficult.
Bicycle
For those adventurous cyclists, you can bike from Bend to OR-242. Take the same route as cars but be prepared for some steep climbs and variable road conditions. The ride is approximately 30 miles and can take a few hours depending on your fitness level. Ensure you have a good map, as cell service may be limited. After reaching the North Sister Trailhead, lock your bike at the designated bike racks and begin your hike.
