History of Moldavia

The Principality of Moldavia was founded in the 14th century by Dragoș, a nobleman from Maramureș, and later consolidated by Bogdan I. It played a crucial role in the medieval history of Eastern Europe, acting as a buffer state between the Ottoman Empire and the Kingdom of Hungary.
Stephen the Great (Ștefan cel Mare) was one of Moldavia's most notable rulers, reigning from 1457 to 1504. He is famed for his military prowess, having fought numerous battles to defend Moldavia against the Ottomans, Hungarians, and Poles. Under his rule, the principality reached its zenith in terms of political power and cultural development.
