Experience Danigala / Alien Mountain

Getting There

  • Walking

    From the center of Polonnaruwa, head towards the historic site of the Ancient City of Polonnaruwa. Follow the main road (Anuradhapura Road) that leads to the ruins. After visiting the main attractions, continue on Anuradhapura Road until you reach the junction with the road leading to the Gal Vihara. Turn left onto the road leading to Gal Vihara and continue walking straight for about 2 kilometers. You will see signposts for Danigala / Alien Mountain along the way, so keep an eye out for them. Eventually, you will reach a small path that leads up the mountain.

  • Bicycle

    Rent a bicycle from one of the many rental shops in Polonnaruwa. Start your journey by cycling towards the Ancient City of Polonnaruwa. Once you reach the main entrance, follow the same route as if you were walking: continue along Anuradhapura Road until you reach the junction with the road to Gal Vihara. Turn left and cycle for approximately 2 kilometers. Look for signposts directing you to Danigala / Alien Mountain. The final stretch may require you to park your bicycle and walk up the path leading to the summit.

  • Tuk-tuk

    Find a tuk-tuk stand in Polonnaruwa and negotiate a fare with the driver to take you to Danigala / Alien Mountain. Provide the driver with the destination details or show them a map. The driver will take you along Anuradhapura Road and turn left towards Gal Vihara. The journey should take around 20-30 minutes depending on traffic. Ask the driver to drop you off at the entrance point to the hiking trail leading up the mountain.
