If you are driving, head towards Wellawaya. From the center of Wellawaya, take the M5 road towards Monaragala. After approximately 5 kilometers, you'll see signs for Buduruwagala Ancient Monastery. Turn right onto a smaller road (M3RR+CH) and continue for about 2 kilometers until you reach the monastery. Ensure you have cash for the entrance fee, which was 1000 LKR per person as of February 2024.

To reach Buduruwagala Ancient Monastery using public transport, take a bus from the nearest major city in Uva Province, such as Ella or Monaragala, to Wellawaya. Buses are frequent and cost around 100-200 LKR. Once in Wellawaya, you can either take a tuk-tuk for about 300 LKR to the monastery or walk the remaining distance of approximately 5 kilometers. Be sure to confirm the fare with the tuk-tuk driver before starting your journey.
