Travel Guide to Uda Diyaluma Waterfall

Getting There

• Train

  From Ella, walk to the Ella Railway Station, which is approximately a 15-minute walk from the town center. At the station, catch a train heading towards Badulla. You will need to get off at the Welawaya station, which is about 20 minutes away. After arriving at Welawaya, exit the station and look for a local bus or tuk-tuk heading towards Uda Diyaluma Waterfall. Make sure to confirm with the driver that they will drop you off at the waterfall.

• Bus

  From Ella, head to the bus station located in the town center. Look for buses going towards Wellawaya. It’s a short ride of about 30 minutes. Once you reach Wellawaya, ask the bus conductor to drop you near the Uda Diyaluma Waterfall entrance. From the drop-off point, you might need to walk a short distance (approximately 1 km) to get to the waterfall, following the signs or asking locals for directions.

• Tuk-Tuk

  If you prefer a more direct route, you can hire a tuk-tuk from Ella to Uda Diyaluma Waterfall. Simply find a tuk-tuk driver in the town center or ask your hotel to arrange one for you. The ride will take approximately 30 minutes, and the driver will take you directly to the waterfall entrance. Make sure to negotiate the fare before starting your journey.

• Hiking

  For the adventurous, you can hike to Uda Diyaluma Waterfall from Ella. Start from the center of Ella and head towards the main road leading to Wellawaya. Follow the road for about 7 km until you see signs for Uda Diyaluma Waterfall. This option will take several hours (approximately 2-3 hours of hiking), and it's advisable to have proper hiking shoes and sufficient water.
