Getting There

  • Car

    If you are traveling by car, start from the nearest major city, Mbarara. Take the Mbarara-Katunguru Road (A-104) and head east towards Katunguru. After approximately 40 kilometers, you will reach a junction. Turn left at the junction onto Ntungamo-Katunguru Road. Continue on this road for about 15 kilometers, and you will find the Kalinzu Central Forest Reserve on your right. Look for signs indicating the Visitors Center.

  • Public Transportation - Matatu

    For public transportation, you can take a matatu (shared taxi) from Mbarara to Katunguru. These matatus leave frequently from the Mbarara taxi park. The journey takes approximately 1 to 1.5 hours depending on traffic. Once you reach Katunguru, you will need to hire a boda-boda (motorcycle taxi) or a private taxi to take you to the Kalinzu Central Forest Reserve. It is about 15 kilometers from Katunguru to the Visitors Center. Expect to pay around 10,000 UGX for the boda-boda ride.

  • Public Transportation - Bus

    Alternatively, you can take a bus from Mbarara to Bushenyi. After reaching Bushenyi, find a matatu or boda-boda to take you to the Kalinzu Central Forest Reserve. The distance from Bushenyi to the Visitors Center is approximately 25 kilometers. Boda-boda fares should be around 15,000 UGX, while matatus will charge about the same. Make sure to ask the driver to drop you off at the Visitors Center.
