    From downtown Huntsville, take US-231 S/Governors Dr E. Continue on Governors Drive, then turn onto Bailey Cove Road SE. Follow Bailey Cove Road to Green Mountain Road SE. Turn left onto Green Mountain Road, then turn left onto Nature Trail Road SE. The entrance to the Madison County Nature Trail will be on your left. Parking is free and readily available.

Nestled atop Green Mountain in Huntsville, the Madison County Nature Trail, also known as the Green Mountain Nature Trail, provides a serene escape from urban life. Along the trail, you'll discover the Cambron Covered Bridge, named after Joe E. Cambron, a former Madison County Bridge Foreman. The bridge is a popular spot for photos, especially during the fall when the surrounding foliage is ablaze with color. You can also explore an authentic log cabin, originally built around 1810 near New Market. The Herbert P. Walker family donated the cabin, which was then reassembled at the Nature Trail, offering a glimpse into the lives of early settlers. The park is a designated Treasure Forest and Wildlife Sanctuary, showcasing a diverse range of plant life, including the state’s largest and oldest Champion Winged Elm Tree. Birdwatchers will enjoy spotting various species, and nature enthusiasts can observe the changing beauty of the landscape throughout the seasons. In spring, azaleas and dogwoods bloom, while summer brings a profusion of wildflowers. The park also features an A-frame chapel available for rent, often used for weddings and memorial services.
