Getting There

  • Walking

    If you are starting from the Salzburg main train station (Hauptbahnhof), exit the station and head towards the main square, Mirabellplatz. From there, walk across the bridge 'Makartsteg' to the left bank of the Salzach River. Continue straight along the riverbank until you reach the 'Steingasse' bridge. Cross the bridge and walk towards the old town (Altstadt). Follow the signs towards 'Festung Hohensalzburg'. As you enter the old town, head towards 'Mönchsberg'. You will see signs directing you to the fortress. Follow the path and steps up to the fortress entrance.

  • Public Transport

    From the Salzburg main train station (Hauptbahnhof), take bus line 5 or 25 towards 'Mönchsberg'. Get off at the stop 'Mönchsberg'. From the bus stop, follow the signs leading you to 'Festung Hohensalzburg'. You will need to walk uphill a bit to reach the fortress entrance.
