The Seethalerhütte, also known as Dachsteinwartehütte, is a mountain hut owned by the Austrian Alpine Club, located at 2,740 meters (8,990 feet) above sea level on the Dachstein glacier in Upper Austria. As the highest refuge in the region, it provides a unique and unforgettable alpine experience. Originally built in 1929, the hut has a rich history of providing shelter and sustenance to mountaineers and hikers. Due to structural damage, the original hut was replaced with a modern, eco-friendly structure between 2016 and 2018. The new hut utilizes a combination of a photovoltaic system and a CHP plant, making it completely fossil-fuel-free. The Seethalerhütte offers accommodation for up to 22 guests in multi-bed rooms. It provides essential amenities such as electricity, hot water, and Wi-Fi. The hut is open during the summer and autumn months, typically from May to November, offering meals and refreshments to day visitors and overnight guests. From the hut, visitors can enjoy breathtaking views of the Dachstein glacier, the surrounding peaks, and even the Großglockner on a clear day. It serves as a starting point for various hiking and mountaineering tours, including the Hoher Dachstein summit climb and glacier walks. However, reaching the Seethalerhütte requires a ride via the Dachstein Südwandbahn cable car and a subsequent hike.
