Discover more about Ağ gümbəz türbəsi

Ağ Gümbəz Türbəsi, situated in the village of Qaraqoyunlu, is a significant historical and architectural monument. The tomb dates back to the early 20th century, specifically 1909, and is dedicated to Hacı Hüseyn Əfəndi Şirvani, a prominent leader of the Naqshbandi Sufi order in Shirvan. He was known as a 'pole of high scholars'. The architecture of Ağ Gümbəz blends elements of the Absheron architectural school with Western influences. The structure features a main entrance and three windows, with inscriptions in Arabic script above the entrance. The facade is adorned with cornerstones, and the cornice projections are decorated with stone carvings in ancient Eastern style. Inside the tomb, there are three graves: one belonging to Hacı Hüseyn Əfəndi Şirvani and the other two to his sons, Hacı Mustafa Şah and Nizaməddin Əfəndi, all of whom were renowned Naqshbandi Sheikhs. Historical documents identify Hacı Hüseyn Əfəndi as Hacı Hüseyn Əfəndi Şəkəristani Qaraqoyuni Şirvani, a Khalifa authorized by Sheikh Ahmad Efendi, the leader of the Shirvan Naqshbandi Sufi school. Born in 1824 in the Şəkər village of the Shirvan Khanate's Sərdərin district (present-day Göyçay region), Hacı Hüseyn Əfəndi was prepared to lead Sufism when his mentor was exiled to Tambov in 1855. He married Hacı Gülpəri, the daughter of his mentor, who was educated in both esoteric and exoteric knowledge. The family members of these Sheikhs are buried around the Ağ Gümbəz.
