Discover more about Xugana Island Lodge

Xugana Island Lodge is located on a private concession within the Okavango Delta, renowned as one of Africa's most awe-inspiring oases. The lodge is situated on the edge of the Xugana Lagoon, known as the most spectacular permanent water site in the entire Okavango Delta. Xugana Island Lodge provides a serene escape where guests can reconnect with nature and enjoy exceptional service. Originally established in the 1960s as a hunting camp, Xugana Island Lodge transitioned into a photographic lodge in the 1970s. The lodge has been owned and operated by Desert & Delta Safaris since 1999. Xugana Island Lodge was recently rebuilt and reopened in April 2025 with a fresh, stylish look. The redesign includes modern amenities while maintaining a deep connection to the environment. The lodge accommodates a maximum of sixteen guests in eight raised reed and thatch chalets, each with a private viewing deck overlooking the lagoon. Natural walkways connect the chalets to the communal lodge area, which includes a lounge, bar, and dining area set under lush trees. A spacious open-air boma and al fresco dining area offer views of the water, while a swimming pool is nestled within the gardens. Activities at Xugana Island Lodge revolve around exploring the Okavango Delta's waterways. Guests can glide through the channels in a mokoro, a traditional dugout canoe, or embark on a motorboat safari to spot hippos, crocodiles, and diverse birdlife. Guided walking safaris on surrounding islands offer opportunities to track larger species. Fishing excursions are also available for those looking to catch tiger fish or bream. Scenic helicopter flights over the Delta provide a unique perspective of this UNESCO World Heritage Site.
