Public Transport
From downtown San Francisco, several Muni lines provide access to different parts of the GGNRA. The Muni F Line runs along Market Street and Embarcadero to Fisherman's Wharf, near the Alcatraz Island Ferry Terminal. The N Judah line connects to Ocean Beach. Golden Gate Transit lines 101, 132, and 150 can transport passengers from San Francisco to the Marin Headlands, with a stop at the Spencer Ave. Bus Pad in Sausalito. Check 511.org or the transit agency websites for current schedules and fares.

Driving
The GGNRA can be reached by Highways 1, 101, and 280 from the north and south San Francisco Bay Area, and by Highway 80 over the Bay Bridge from the East Bay. Parking fees may be in effect at some of the popular beaches and destinations within the GGNRA. As of February 2024, parking at Northwest Bridge, Battery East, and West Bluff parking lots costs $3/hour or $10/day.

Ferry
Ferries provide access to Alcatraz Island and connect San Francisco to various points in Marin County. Alcatraz City Cruises operates ferries to Alcatraz Island from Pier 33. Golden Gate Ferry operates service to Sausalito and Tiburon from the San Francisco Ferry Terminal. A one-way ferry ticket to Sausalito or Tiburon costs around $14.00.
