Getting There

  • Driving

    The most common way to reach the Mount Diablo Summit Museum is by driving. From Walnut Creek, take North Gate Road, or from Danville, take South Gate Road. Both routes lead to Summit Road, which takes you to the summit. Be aware that the roads are steep, narrow, and winding, with limited visibility and blind turns. A vehicle entrance fee of $10 is required. Parking at the summit can be limited, especially on weekends. Check road conditions before you go.

  • Public Transport & Shuttle

    While public transportation doesn't directly reach the summit, County Connection buses serve the vicinity of Mount Diablo State Park. From there, you can hike or bike into the park. However, to reach the summit from the park entrance without a car requires significant physical exertion. There are no shuttle services available to the summit. Bus fare is approximately $2.25 for a local fixed route.

The beacon above the rotunda is lit annually on December 7 in memory of those who lost their lives at Pearl Harbor. The Mount Diablo Interpretive Association (MDIA) supports the park's conservation and education efforts and operates the museum.
