Walking
If you are starting from the center of Avarua, head south on Ara Tapu (the main road) towards the Avatiu area. Continue walking for about 1.5 kilometers until you reach the intersection with the road leading to Avatiu Harbour. At this point, turn left onto Avatiu Road and follow it until you see a sign for the Te Rua Manga trailhead on your right. The trailhead is well-marked, and you can start your hike from there.

From Avarua, rent a bicycle and head south on Ara Tapu for approximately 1.5 kilometers. At the intersection with Avatiu Road, turn left. Continue along Avatiu Road until you reach the trailhead for Te Rua Manga on your right. Secure your bike at the trailhead before starting your hike up to the Needle.

Take a local bus or shuttle from Avarua to the Avatiu area. Buses typically run every hour. Ask the driver to drop you off at the nearest stop to Avatiu Road. Once you get off, walk towards Avatiu Road and look for the trailhead sign for Te Rua Manga on your right. Follow the signs to start your hike.
