From Dubrovnik's Old Town, head towards Pile Gate, the main entrance to the city walls. Exit through Pile Gate and walk along the coastline on Stradun until you reach the harbor area. Look for signs pointing towards Tvrđava Svetog Ivana. Follow the path along the water's edge, passing by the marina and small beaches until you see the fortress rising above you. The entrance will be on your left. This is a free and scenic walk.

If starting from a further location in Dubrovnik, take a local Libertas bus to the Pile Gate bus stop, which is the main entrance to the Old Town. From there, walk through the Pile Gate and follow the directions as described in the 'Walking' guidance. A single bus ticket costs €1.73 if purchased at a kiosk or €1.99 if purchased on the bus. A 24-hour bus pass is also available for €5.31.

Taxis can drop you off at the Pile Gate or Ploče Gate, as they cannot enter the Old Town. From either gate, follow the walking directions to reach the fortress. A taxi ride from Dubrovnik Airport to the Old Town typically costs between €48. Within the city, expect a base fare of €3.36 plus €1.08 per kilometer. Keep in mind that there may be extra fees for luggage or travel during holidays.
