Discover more about Davos

Davos, the highest town in the Alps, sits at 1,560 meters (5,120 ft) above sea level in the canton of Graubünden, Switzerland. Originally a remote farming village, Davos transformed into a renowned health resort in the mid-19th century when its high-altitude climate was found to be beneficial for treating tuberculosis. This attracted visitors from across Europe, leading to the construction of sanatoriums and hotels, and the establishment of Davos as an international destination. Davos is now famous for hosting the World Economic Forum (WEF), an annual gathering of global leaders in business, politics, and academia. This event brings a cosmopolitan atmosphere to the town, contrasting with its traditional alpine setting. However, Davos offers more than just a meeting place for global elites. It boasts one of Switzerland's largest ski resorts, offering hundreds of kilometers of slopes for skiers and snowboarders of all levels. In the summer, the mountains transform into a haven for hikers and mountain bikers, with numerous trails offering breathtaking views. Beyond its natural beauty and outdoor activities, Davos also has a rich cultural history. The Kirchner Museum showcases the works of Expressionist artist Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, who spent the last 20 years of his life in Davos. Lake Davos provides a serene escape for swimming, boating, and lakeside strolls. The Schatzalp, known as the Magic Mountain, offers panoramic views and a botanical garden with over 1,300 plant species. Whether seeking adventure on the slopes, relaxation by the lake, or intellectual stimulation at the WEF, Davos offers a diverse and unforgettable experience.
