From New York City, take the George Washington Bridge to the New Jersey Turnpike (I-95 N). Merge onto I-287 N and continue for about 40 miles. Take exit 17 for NY-300 toward Newburgh. Merge onto NY-300 N, then take the ramp onto I-84 W. Keep left to stay on I-84 W, then take exit 10 toward Newburgh. Turn left onto Liberty Street. Washington's Headquarters State Historic Site will be on your right at 84 Liberty St, Newburgh, NY 12551. Expect to pay tolls on the George Washington Bridge and I-287.

From New York City, take the Metro-North Railroad from Grand Central Terminal to Beacon Station. The train ride takes approximately 1 hour and 20 minutes. Once at Beacon Station, transfer to the NJ Transit bus #7 (Newburgh) which will take you to Newburgh. You will want to ask the driver to drop you off close to Washington's Headquarters State Historic Site. The total cost for the Metro-North ticket is approximately $15 one-way, and the bus fare is about $2.50.
