Car
If you're traveling by car, start from the Abel Tasman National Park Visitor Centre in Marahau. Drive north on Abel Tasman Drive (State Highway 60) for about 17 km until you reach the small town of Motueka. From Motueka, continue on State Highway 60 for approximately 22 km until you reach the junction with State Highway 61. Turn left onto State Highway 61 and follow it until you see signs for Canaan Downs Scenic Reserve. The road will take you directly to parking areas near Harwoods Hole. Please note that the roads can be narrow and winding, so drive with caution.

Public Transportation
For those using public transportation, catch a bus from Nelson to Motueka. There are regular services available for this route. Once in Motueka, you will need to take a taxi or rideshare service to reach Canaan Downs Scenic Reserve, as public transport does not service this area directly. The taxi ride from Motueka to Canaan Downs usually costs around NZD 50-60. Once you arrive, there will be signs directing you to the Harwoods Hole track.

Hiking
Once you park your car or arrive at Canaan Downs, you will find the start of the Harwoods Hole track. The track is approximately a 1-hour hike through native forest, and is well-marked. Make sure to wear appropriate hiking shoes, carry water, and check the weather conditions before starting your hike. The path will lead you to the entrance of Harwoods Hole, which features one of the largest vertical limestone caves in New Zealand. Take your time to enjoy the unique landscape along the way.
