If you are travelling by car, start from the town of Motueka. Head south on State Highway 60 towards the town of Takaka. After about 30 kilometers, turn left onto Canaan Road, which is well-marked. Continue on Canaan Road for approximately 8 kilometers until you reach the Canaan Downs Scenic Reserve car park. From the car park, you can access the Harwoods Hole Track.

Public Transportation
For those using public transportation, take a bus from Nelson to Takaka. The bus service runs regularly and the journey takes around 1.5 hours. Once in Takaka, you will need to arrange for a taxi or shuttle service to take you to Canaan Road, as public transport does not directly reach the Harwoods Hole area. Once you arrive at the Canaan Downs Scenic Reserve car park, you can begin your hike to Harwoods Hole.
