Getting There

• Car

  If you are traveling by car, start by heading to Whangarei. From Whangarei, take State Highway 14 heading west. After about 15 km, turn left onto Whareora Road. Continue on Whareora Road for approximately 7 km, and then turn right onto Taheke Road. Follow Taheke Road for about 1 km until you reach the car park for Taheke Waterfalls. The total drive will take approximately 30-40 minutes, depending on traffic.

• Public Transportation

  To reach Taheke Waterfalls using public transportation, start at the Whangarei Bus Terminal. Take a bus towards Dargaville, and ask the driver to drop you at the Whareora Road intersection. From there, you will need to walk approximately 7 km along Whareora Road, then turn right onto Taheke Road and walk another 1 km to the waterfall car park. Note that walking from the bus stop to the waterfalls will take about 1.5-2 hours, so plan accordingly. Ensure to check the bus schedules, as services may be limited.

• Taxi/Rideshare

  For a more direct route without a vehicle, consider taking a taxi or rideshare service from Whangarei. Simply provide the driver with the address: Taheke Waterfalls, Whareora 0175. The drive should take around 30 minutes, and costs will vary depending on the service, so confirm the fare beforehand.

• Walking

  If you're already in Whareora village and want to hike to the waterfalls, you can walk. From the center of Whareora, head southwest on Whareora Road. It’s approximately a 7 km walk to the intersection with Taheke Road, then turn right and continue for 1 km to the car park. This walk will take around 1.5-2 hours, providing great views of the surrounding area.
