If you are traveling by car, start your journey from the town of Mollepata, which is a common starting point for the Salkantay Trail. Drive towards the village of Soraypampa, which is approximately 15 km (about 30 minutes) from Mollepata. Follow the signs to Soraypampa. Once you reach Soraypampa, park your car at the designated parking area. From here, you will need to hike to Nevado Humantay.

To reach Nevado Humantay using public transportation, first take a colectivo (shared taxi) from the main plaza in Mollepata to Soraypampa. The ride will cost around 10-15 soles and takes about 30 minutes. Once you arrive at Soraypampa, you can begin the hike to Nevado Humantay.

Hiking
From Soraypampa, the hike to Nevado Humantay takes about 1.5 to 2 hours. The trail is well-marked, so follow the signs leading towards the mountain. The hike is steep, so make sure to take your time and stay hydrated. Once you reach the summit, you will be rewarded with breathtaking views of the turquoise lake and surrounding peaks.

Return Trip
After enjoying your time at Nevado Humantay, return to Soraypampa by retracing your steps along the same hiking trail. If you took a colectivo to Soraypampa, make sure to wait for one to take you back to Mollepata. Colectivos usually run frequently, but it’s a good idea to check the schedule ahead of time.
