Getting There

    From the center of Karongi, head towards the main road (A0) that runs alongside Lake Kivu. Start at the Karongi Market and walk towards the main road. Once you reach the A0 road, turn left and continue walking for about 1 km until you reach the sign for Kitabi Cultural Village (KCV). Follow the sign, which will direct you onto a smaller road leading towards Mont Gabegi. Keep walking straight for about 2 km, enjoying the scenic views of the lake and surrounding hills. As you approach Mont Gabegi, look for another sign indicating the entrance to Kitabi Cultural Village, which will be on your right. The walk takes approximately 30 to 40 minutes.

  • Bicycle

    If you prefer cycling, rent a bicycle from one of the shops in Karongi. Start at the Karongi Market and head towards the A0 road. Turn left onto the A0 and cycle for about 1 km until you see the sign for Kitabi Cultural Village (KCV). Turn onto the smaller road leading to Mont Gabegi. Continue cycling for about 2 km, enjoying the fresh air and views. Be cautious of the terrain, as some parts may be steep. The total cycling distance is around 3 km, which should take about 15 to 20 minutes.

  • Moto-taxi

    For a quicker option, you can take a moto-taxi (motorcycle taxi) from the center of Karongi. Find a moto-taxi stand near the Karongi Market and negotiate a fare to Kitabi Cultural Village. The drivers are familiar with the area and will take you directly to the entrance. The ride will take approximately 10 to 15 minutes. Make sure to wear a helmet and follow safety guidelines during your ride.
