Getting There

Car
If you are driving from the Nyungwe Forest National Park Visitor Center, head east on the main road (N6) for about 12 kilometers. Look for the turn-off towards Kitabi Cultural Village, which is marked with a sign. Take the turn and continue on this road for approximately 3 kilometers until you reach Kitabi Cultural Village (KCV), located at coordinates FCF7+QJ4, Mont Gabegi.

Public Transportation
From the Nyungwe Forest National Park Visitor Center, you can take a local bus or shared taxi heading towards Butare. Inform the driver that you wish to stop at Kitabi. The fare is usually around RWF 1,000-1,500. After approximately 30 minutes of travel, ask to be dropped off at the nearest point to Kitabi Cultural Village. From there, you may need to walk about 1 kilometer to reach the village.

If you are starting from a nearby location within Nyungwe Forest National Park, you may choose to walk to Kitabi Cultural Village. Follow the main trails towards Mont Gabegi, keeping an eye out for local signage. The walk will take approximately 1.5 to 2 hours depending on your pace.
