Walking
Start from the center of Freetown, specifically at the Cotton Tree on George Street. From there, head south on George Street until you reach the junction with Rawdon Street. Turn left onto Rawdon Street and continue straight until you reach the junction with Siaka Stevens Street. Turn right onto Siaka Stevens Street. Follow this road as it curves and becomes Lumley Beach Road. Continue along Lumley Beach Road until you reach the end of the road where it meets the water. From here, you can hire a local boat or inquire about ferry services to Crabbs. The boat journey will take you directly to Hells Gate Island.

Public Transport
From the center of Freetown, make your way to the nearest public transport area, which is usually found around the central market. Look for a 'poda poda' (minibus) heading towards the west along the Lumley Beach Road. Inform the driver that you want to go to Crabbs. After approximately 30 minutes, get off at the closest stop to the Crabbs area. Once you get off, ask locals for directions to the nearest boat launch that takes you to Hells Gate Island. There are usually signs or people who can guide you to the right place.

Taxi
Find a local taxi in the Freetown area. You can hail one from the street or ask your hotel to arrange one for you. Inform the driver that you want to go to Crabbs, specifically requesting to be dropped off near the boat launch for Hells Gate Island. The taxi ride will take around 30 to 40 minutes depending on traffic. Once you arrive at the boat launch, you can purchase a ticket for the boat ride to Hells Gate Island.
