Train
From Lugano, head to the Lugano train station (Stazione di Lugano) which is centrally located. Take a train towards Domodossola. After approximately 1 hour, get off at Orta-Miasino station. From there, you can either take a taxi or walk to the ferry terminal in Orta San Giulio, which is about a 30-minute walk. Once at the ferry terminal, take a ferry to the island of San Giulio and enjoy the beautiful views of Lake Orta. The Chiesa del Sacro Monte di Orta is located on a hill near the town.

From Lugano, go to the main bus terminal (Piazza A. Cantoni). Look for a bus service heading to Orta San Giulio. It may require a change, usually in the town of Omegna. Once you arrive at Orta San Giulio, follow the signs towards the Chiesa del Sacro Monte, which is located a short distance from the bus stop. Be prepared for a bit of an uphill walk.
