If you are starting from the Edinburgh Waverley Railway Station, exit the station onto Waverley Bridge. Head west towards the Old Town by following the road as it curves. Once you reach the Royal Mile, turn left. Continue along the Royal Mile until you reach the junction with the Canongate. Look for Lady Stair's Close on your right-hand side, just before the junction with the Canongate. The entrance to Lady Stair's Close is a narrow alleyway leading to the historic area, which features the Writers' Museum.

If you are starting from Princes Street, head towards the Scott Monument and then take the steps down to the Mound. Walk straight across the Mound towards the Old Town. Once you reach the top of the Royal Mile, turn right and proceed down the Royal Mile. You will find Lady Stair's Close on your right before you reach the Canongate. The entrance is easy to miss, so look for the small sign indicating Lady Stair's Close.
