Ascend to the Historic Calton Hill

Getting There

• Car

  If you are traveling by car, head towards Edinburgh. From the A720, take the exit for the A1 towards the city center. Follow signs for 'Calton Hill' or use the address A1, Edinburgh EH1 3BQ in your GPS. Once you arrive, look for available parking on the streets around Calton Hill; note that parking may be limited and could incur a small fee.

• Public Transportation - Bus

  For those using public transport, take a bus to Edinburgh city center. Several bus services run from various locations in Midlothian to Edinburgh, such as Lothian Buses. Disembark at 'North Bridge' or 'John Lewis' bus stop. From there, walk down to Calton Hill, which is about a 10-minute walk. Follow the signs towards Calton Hill; the hill is well-marked and easy to find.

• Public Transportation - Train

  If you prefer taking the train, board a train from Midlothian to Edinburgh Waverley station. Once you arrive at Waverley, exit the station and head towards the Royal Mile. From the Royal Mile, follow the signs to Calton Hill, which is approximately a 15-minute walk. Look for the exit signs leading up to the hill; you can also use a map application for detailed walking directions.

• Walking

  If you are already in the city center, walking to Calton Hill is a pleasant option. From Princes Street, head towards the east side of the city. Follow the signs to Calton Hill, which is about a 20-minute walk. You will pass through some lovely streets and can enjoy the local scenery along the way.
