If you are driving, start from the nearest major town, Haltwhistle. From Haltwhistle, head west on the A69. After approximately 2 miles, take the exit for the B6318 towards Hadrian's Wall. Continue on this road for about 3 miles until you reach the Cawfields Quarry car park, which is well signposted. Park your vehicle here; this car park is a popular starting point for visitors heading to Great Chesters Fort. The fort is a short walk from the car park along the Hadrian's Wall Path.

Public Transportation
If you prefer public transportation, take a train from Newcastle to Haltwhistle. The journey takes about 1 hour and trains run frequently. Upon arrival at Haltwhistle station, exit and walk to the bus stop located nearby. Take the AD122 bus towards Hexham and get off at the Cawfields Quarry stop. From the bus stop, follow the signs to the Hadrian's Wall Path, which will lead you to Great Chesters Fort. The entire journey will take around 1.5 to 2 hours depending on wait times.

If you are near the Cawfields Quarry car park and wish to walk, the route to Great Chesters Fort is straightforward. From the parking area, follow the signposts for the Hadrian's Wall Path. The walk is approximately 1 mile and should take about 20-30 minutes. The path is well-maintained and provides beautiful views of the surrounding countryside. Ensure you wear appropriate footwear as parts of the path may be uneven.
