Car
From Kirkwall, take the A965 road heading northwest towards Birsay. Continue on the A965 for approximately 18 miles, enjoying the scenic views along the way. As you approach Birsay, you'll see signs directing you to the Brough of Birsay. Turn left onto the Birsay road (Birsay is well signposted). Follow the road until you reach the car park at the Brough of Birsay. The entrance to the site is a short walk from the car park.

Public Transport
From Kirkwall, take the Stagecoach bus number 6 towards Birsay. The bus stop is located at the Kirkwall Bus Station. The journey will take approximately 45 minutes. Ask the driver to let you know when you reach Birsay, or look for the Birsay village stop. Once you get off the bus, follow the road signs towards the Brough of Birsay, which is about a 15-minute walk from the bus stop. The route is well marked, and you'll enjoy the picturesque scenery along the way.

Car
If you are starting from Stromness, head northeast on the A965 towards Kirkwall. After about 10 miles, take the left turn onto the Birsay road as you approach the village of Birsay. Continue straight to the car park for the Brough of Birsay. The entrance is a short walk from there.

You can also take the bus from Stromness to Birsay. Board the Stagecoach bus number 6 at the Stromness bus stop. The bus will take you directly to Birsay, taking around 30 minutes. Once you get off, follow the road signs to the Brough of Birsay, which is approximately a 15-minute walk from the bus stop.
