From the Little Saigon neighborhood, head south on 12th Avenue S for approximately 0.7 miles. The park will be on your right. This is a moderately uphill walk [7].

More than just a scenic viewpoint, the park serves as a tribute to Dr. Jose Rizal, a Filipino writer, activist, and national hero, and to the vibrant Filipino community in Seattle [4, 5, 6, 8]. The park's history is intertwined with the city's development. The land was initially acquired in 1917 for engineering purposes related to the regrading of Dearborn and Jackson Streets [4, 5, 6]. It remained undeveloped until 1971 when the Parks Department created a parking area and viewpoint [4, 5]. In 1974, at the request of the Filipino Alumni Association, the park was named in honor of Dr. Rizal [4, 5]. The park was formally dedicated in 1981, solidifying its place as a landmark that recognizes the contributions of Filipinos to Seattle [2, 4, 5, 6].
