The Blevins Gap Trailhead parking lot will be on your left. Parking is free, but the lot can fill up quickly, especially on weekends.

Blevins Gap Nature Preserve, a 1,127-acre oasis in South Huntsville, offers a diverse landscape of woodlands, rocky inclines, and stunning vistas. Managed by the Land Trust of North Alabama, the preserve provides a serene escape for hikers and nature enthusiasts. The preserve is divided into two main sections by Cecil Ashburn Drive. The southern section features approximately 8 miles of well-maintained woodland trails, with varying levels of difficulty. Hikers are rewarded with spectacular valley views. Popular trails include the Bill and Marion Certain Trail, known for its overlook, and the West Bluff Trail, offering broad views of South Huntsville. The northern section presents a more rugged terrain with about 4.5 miles of trails. This area features a rocky incline and seasonal waterfalls. The Fanning Trail, accessed from the Fanning Trailhead, climbs several hundred feet in the first mile. Blevins Gap's history dates back to the early 1800s when the Blevins family settled in the area. The preserve contains remnants of the "Spacewalk Trail," built by Boy Scouts in the 1960s. The northern portion, donated in 1988, was the first piece of land ever donated to a land trust in Alabama. The preserve is home to diverse flora and fauna, including armadillos, deer, and various bird species. Plant life includes the Alabama snow-wreath and the American smoketree. Marie's Garden, a native plant garden near the main trailhead, supports local ecosystems.
