Getting There

• Car

  If you are driving, head towards Scharnitz, where Isar Ursprung is located. From Innsbruck, take the A12 motorway towards Kufstein. Exit at 'Zirl' and head north on the B177 road towards Scharnitz. Follow the signs to the Naturpark Karwendel. Once in Scharnitz, look for signs directing you to Isar Ursprung. There is a small parking area nearby, but it may require a parking fee, which is usually around €5 for the day.

• Public Transportation

  To reach Isar Ursprung using public transportation, take a train to Scharnitz from Innsbruck. Trains run regularly and the journey takes approximately 30-40 minutes. Once you arrive at the Scharnitz train station, exit the station and walk towards the town center. From there, you can follow the signs for Isar Ursprung, which is about a 20-minute walk. Be mindful of the trail conditions, and wear appropriate footwear. There are no additional costs for walking, but ensure you check the train schedules in advance.

• Hiking

  For those already in the Karwendel Mountains, you can hike to Isar Ursprung directly. Start your hike from the nearest trailhead, which is usually accessible from the main trails leading into the park. Ensure you have a map or GPS device, as the trails can vary in difficulty. The hike may take 1-2 hours depending on your starting point. Bring water and snacks, as there are no facilities on the trail.
