From Salzburg Central Station (Salzburg Hbf), take trolleybus lines 1, 3, 5, 6, or 25 to the Rathaus or Ferdinand-Hanusch-Platz stop in the city center. From there, walk through the Old Town via Getreidegasse, Alter Markt, Residenzplatz, Domplatz and Kapitelplatz to Festungsgasse. From Festungsgasse, you can either walk up to the fortress or take the funicular. A single bus fare costs €1 - €2.

The Festungsbahn funicular provides a quick and convenient way to reach the fortress. The valley station is located at Festungsgasse 4 in the Old Town, a short walk from Kapitelplatz. The funicular runs every 10 minutes and the ride takes less than a minute. A round-trip funicular ticket, including fortress admission (basic ticket), costs €14.50 for adults and €5.90 for children (6-14 years). A single ride up or down costs €3.80 for adults and €1.50 for children.
