  • Walking

    From Kapitelplatz in the Old Town, follow the signs towards Festung Hohensalzburg. The walk is steep and takes approximately 15-20 minutes. The path is not entirely barrier-free and may not be suitable for strollers due to steps. Buy your ticket at the entrance.

  • Public Transport

    Take the Festungsbahn funicular from Festungsgasse 4, near Kapitelplatz, to the top of the Festungsberg. The funicular runs every 10 minutes and the ride takes less than a minute. A round trip ticket alone costs €6.00 for adults and €2.30 for children (6-14.99 years). However, it is more economical to purchase a combination ticket with fortress admission. A basic ticket with funicular access costs €14.50 for adults and €5.90 for children. The funicular is barrier-free.

  • Taxi

    A taxi from Salzburg Hbf (main train station) to Fortress Hohensalzburg takes approximately 4 minutes and costs between €9-€11. From the taxi drop-off point, follow the signs to the funicular station or walk up the path to the fortress. Note that the Old Town is a pedestrian zone, so taxis can only drop you off at the edge of the area.
