Getting There

  • Shuttle

    The easiest way to reach Lower Yosemite Fall is by using the free Yosemite Valley Shuttle. Take the Valleywide Shuttle (Green Route) and get off at Shuttle Stop #6. From there, follow the bicycle path in either direction to access the trail. The shuttle runs frequently from 7 am to 10 pm, with buses arriving every 12 to 22 minutes. There is no cost to ride the shuttle.

  • Walking

    If you are in Yosemite Village, you can walk to Lower Yosemite Fall. Follow the bicycle path west for about 0.5 miles. The falls are visible from much of the valley, making them easy to find. The walk from Yosemite Valley Visitor Center adds approximately 0.5 miles to your hike. There is no cost for walking.

  • Parking

    If driving, parking is available around Yosemite Village, along Northside Drive, or in the large lots at Yosemite Village and Curry Village (Half Dome Village). From the parking areas, follow signs to the Lower Yosemite Fall Trailhead. Parking is free within Yosemite National Park. However, during peak season (April through October), arrive before 9 am or after 5 pm to avoid traffic congestion. Note that between May 24-26, June 15-August 15, and August 30-September 1, reservations are required to drive into Yosemite between 6 am and 2 pm. The standard entrance fee for a private vehicle is $35, valid for three consecutive days.

It provides various vantage points of both Upper and Lower Yosemite Falls, as well as Yosemite Creek. Informative exhibits dot the trail, offering insights into the area's natural and cultural history. The main village of the native people of Yosemite Valley, the Ahwahneechee, was located at the base of the falls. The Ahwahneechee people called the waterfall "Cholock" and believed that the pool at its base was inhabited by the spirits. The trail is generally open year-round, though the waterfall's flow varies dramatically. Peak flow occurs in late spring and early summer, while the falls may dry up completely from late July or August through October. Winter can bring icy conditions, especially on the western portion of the trail. John Muir built a cabin near the base of Yosemite Falls in 1869.
